I’m SAS Becker. Yes, it’s my real name, just say “Sass.”
A little bit about me: I started taking pictures in high school, photographing anyone who would let me. After high school I went to the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU and graduated with a BFA. I got really lucky and landed a job as Assistant Photo Editor for Esquire magazine, where I began to learn the skills that would shape my life. I later moved to Redbook magazine as the Photo Editor. The entire magazine experience was so valuable to me because it taught me so much about producing great photography- not just picking out the best shots, but the entire production timeline, from concept to completion.
Somewhere along the way I realized I needed to produce my own work to be fulfilled. In 1993, I started shooting images for stock, advertising and editorial markets with my wonderful husband, Rob. We worked hard at learning the craft and it has paid off beautifully. Our work is now represented by Corbis, one of the largest stock photo agencies in the world. My pictures have been used by AT&T, Wyeth, Hallmark, Disney and others, appearing in Parents, Family Circle, Child, Ladies Home Journal, USA Today and many other publications worldwide.
My specialty has always been lifestyle images of people leading happy, fulfilling lives, and has spawned a career-within-a-career, me as wedding and family portrait photographer. I love my job! There is nothing that gives me more joy than making people feel beautiful and seeing the looks on the faces of happy brides or moms when they get their pictures. Of course, I photograph my own two kids as much as they’ll allow, as well as my friends and family.
